Breakfast Club Academy

Education beyond the classroom.

Breakfast Club Academy is the education wing of Breakfast Club Dhaka. Students and young people learn music, crafts, events and leadership by doing them for real, through three programs: Recess, Award and Scholarship.

Our ethos

Learning beyond textbooks.

What the Academy does

Breakfast Club Academy is built to introduce students and young people to learning beyond textbooks. It encourages creativity, practical knowledge, confidence, collaboration, and exposure to fields such as music, crafts, event organizing, and creative culture.

Built on Breakfast Club Dhaka

Breakfast Club Dhaka moved the dancefloor into daylight, with every age on one floor. Every one of those mornings needed a crew. The Academy hands those skills to the next generation.

School periods, run by the students. Danced by their parents.

After three weeks of workshops, the students build the stage, make the posters, shoot the content and run the floor. Teachers, parents and alumni share it with them.

One floor. The whole school.

Recess is made for the school's own community. Nobody else is invited.

Students & teachers

Students run it and dance in it. Teachers coordinate, supervise and join the floor.

  • The student crew runs the event
  • Performers take the student stage
  • Up to 30 join the tutorial class
  • A teacher coordinator signs off everything

Parents

Invited through the school. They see what their children built, and share the floor with them.

  • One invitation through the school
  • Watch the student stage
  • On the floor for the artist sets
  • Can back the event through merch and refreshments

Alumni

Former students come home: on the decks as artists, in the crowd, and as proof the path exists.

  • Alumni artists preferred for the sets
  • Invited through the school's alumni network
  • Mentors and role models for the crew
  • Can back the event through merch and refreshments

Three ways to run a Recess.

Every Recess is built from the same blocks: performances, the student stage and the tutorial class. The format decides how many of each. Pick one to see the full flow.

How the periods run.

Three weeks. Four workshops.

The students who run Recess are recruited and trained by the people who run Breakfast Club. Training starts at least three weeks before the event.

Project lead

Three people own the whole thing.

What each workshop teaches.

Forty minutes with the founder.

OMDG Your teacher Tonmoy Dutta Gupta
aka OMDG

Founder of Breakfast Club Dhaka. He leads a 40-minute basic tutorial on playing a musical instrument, then talks about music: how he got started, how a set is built, and what it takes to make music your thing.

How students get a seat
  1. Apply in advance

Students register before the event through the school. No walk-ins on the day.

  2. 30 are selected

A maximum of 30 students are selected from the applications, with the teacher coordinator.

  3. Join the class

Selected students join OMDG on the day for the 40-minute tutorial and the music talk.

Made for your community first.

No public promotion before the day. The room belongs to the school. The world sees it after.

Before

Inside the school

The event management team runs the promotion inside school, plus one message to parents and alumni through the school's WhatsApp groups.

On the day

Your people only

Students, teachers, parents and alumni. The crew runs the guest list and the door.

After

Three pages, one story

Student-made reels and photos go up as collab posts on the school's page, Breakfast Club Academy and Breakfast Club Dhaka.

What the school gives and gets.
